Visit the Indiana State Fair and See the Monster Trucks for $12

stabilizerLast January, the Monster Truck Jam came to Indy and while I really, really, really wanted to take my oldest son, I just couldn’t justify the high price tag. Sure, we could have purchased the peanut heaven tickets for $20 a pop, but what fun is that? It would still be $60 for all three of us to go and we’d be too far away to really see anything. Of course, my son (at 4-years-old) still found out about it from a friend at school and begged me to go. I told him that we would take him when he was 5…and he hasn’t stopped talking about it since.

Boy do I have a surprise for him! The Indiana State Fair will be hosting the Monster Truck Nationals on Saturday, August 4. It’s a no brainer really, because tickets are only $5 each (plus fair admission) and kids under 5 are FREE—our whole family can go to the fair AND the Monster Truck show for less than the price of one Monster Jam ticket…and it’s in the Grandstand, so we’ll actually be able to see!

I’m talking side-by-side races, wheelies, and all kinds of free style trickery. He’s going to go nuts when he finds out we’re going.

Shows start at 1:00 or 7:00 and would be a perfect way to take your kids to a monster truck event without breaking the bank. Like I said, tickets are $5 at the gate, but you can also purchase them in advance for $7.50 through Ticketmaster. Fair tickets are $10 at the gate, but there here are some ways to save on that:

– Discount tickets are $7 and will be available at all Indiana Walmart stores, Indiana CVS/pharmacy stores, Indiana Farm Bureau offices, The Marten House Hotel, and the Indiana State Fairgrounds Ticket Office.

– Multi-day admission passes are also available for $18 at the above locations. But, if you take this coupon from VisitIndiana, you can get the pass for just $12.

ear muffsJust a couple additional notes:

I have no idea what to expect, but I thought it would be wise to invest in some protective ear muffs for the kids, just in case. They were $16 on Amazon and will be delivered in 2 days if you have Prime.

Also, you can Win Tickets to the fair by visiting these fellow Indiana bloggers: WritRams, Mom For Less, and Kat’s Cafe.

Disclaimer: My family has received tickets to the State Fair and Monster Truck Nationals in exchange for promoting this event…but the opinions expressed here are completely my own and I’m really excited to go.

“Oh, The Places You’ll Go” End of School-Year Tradition

It’s not too much longer till the school year comes to a close, so I wanted to share this amazing idea I found on…you guessed it…Pinterest. You all know the book Oh, The Places You’ll Go from Dr. Seuss. It’s a great graduation gift. But, Lisa from Lisa’s Workshop suggests grabbing a copy when your kid is young. At the end of each school year, give it to your child’s teacher to sign or write a note. When you’re child graduates (hard to think of!), you’ll have a lovely gift to give him/her. Lisa has even included some lovely tags in her blog post, so make sure to go check it out.
