Put a Cork In It

Throw your corks up to home décor this month because I’ve got a great idea for you. If you’re anything like me, you probably have tons of old corks lying around the house. (Back in the day it was beer bottle caps, but we’re a little more refined now.)
This nifty art project will give you something creative to do with your old corks, and give your bar some added dimension. (Makes a wonderful gift too!) All you need are some wine corks, a hot glue gun, and a Styrofoam wreath base, which you can easily find at any craft store for an affordable price.
In order to cover the base, you will need to layer, so save your “nicest” corks for the outer layer. Start gluing corks on the inside of the base and then the outside of the ring base. This will enable you to glue the remainder of the corks on the body of the wreath without having to worry about overhang onto the outside and inside of the wreath. The glue dries quickly and you can add other things to your wreath as you like. (My husband wished that I would have left it plain, but I thought it needed some color). I used plastic grapes and leaves to add a little color, but you can get as creative as you like.
Note: Unless you work at a winery, restaurant, or throw numerous parties, it takes some time to save up enough wine corks for a project like this. But, don’t despair, you can also do what I did and ask friends and family to “donate” their corks to you too. I have been saving corks for four years so I was able to do this with corks to spare.
If you are short on time, don’t worry. It only took me about 45 minutes to make this wreath. So if you find yourself with some quiet time alone one evening (ha ha!), you can get this done easily!
