Wine from the Heart of the Desert

The Wine Mom  Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Many of us do not think of New Mexico in terms of wine production, but it actually is the oldest wine growing region in the United States dating back to 1629. Recently I was introduced to some beautiful wines from Heart of the Desert in New Mexico. I was impressed with how well the wines [...]

Wednesdays with The Wine Mom – Falling for Wine

The Wine Mom  Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Summer is ending and fall weather is rapidly approaching. The best way for me to transition is to think about all the good things that come with fall: the leaves changing, a new school year, Penn State football, and putting on a nice warm sweater. Fall is also harvesting season for many grapes. This is [...]

Hall Wines are Green Too

The Wine Mom  Tuesday, August 18, 2009

This past Sunday we entertained friends for dinner where we enjoyed two bottles of excellent wine from Hall Wines.
We started with the 2005 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. This Cab is deep red and purple in color with notes of ripe berries with a smooth berry flavor. The Cab finishes with a slightly spicy [...]

Green Monday with The Wine Mom – Gardening

The Wine Mom  Monday, July 20, 2009

When it comes to eating organic foods, one of the most cost effective ways is to grow it yourself. And, with the economy in a dip, many people are considering “trying” this for the first time. I have had both large gardens and potted gardens due to many moves over the years. I have learned [...]

Wine Taste at your next Outdoor Concert

The Wine Mom  Wednesday, July 1, 2009

During the summer, I usually look for affordable, family- friendly activities. That way, we can enjoy numerous activities throughout the year. The youngest likes to run around, dance, clap, and listen to music. My husband and I love to listen to music and experience new things. A free concert in Millennium Park was just what [...]

Wine[tails] from [yellow tail] wine….

The Wine Mom  Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Let’s face it, everyone is trying to do something that sets their party apart from the rest. For many, that is sharing a new dish, drink, or appetizer that you found in your favorite magazine or online. Wine[tails] will let you stand out at your next gathering, and you won’t be offering the same old [...]

Put a Cork In It

The Wine Mom  Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Throw your corks up to home décor this month because I’ve got a great idea for you. If you’re anything like me, you probably have tons of old corks lying around the house. (Back in the day it was beer bottle caps, but we’re a little more refined now.)
This nifty art project will give you [...]

Award Winning Wines Help Fund Breast Cancer Research and Treatments

The Wine Mom  Monday, June 8, 2009

Within the first minute of speaking to Budge Brown, I knew he had a passion for breast cancer awareness. If you’ve never heard of Mr. Brown, maybe you have heard of his winery, Cleavage Creek. The winery was created with the intent of contributing significantly towards breast cancer research and awareness.
Breast cancer is a topic [...]

“Oh, The Places You’ll Go” End of School-Year Tradition

It’s not too much longer till the school year comes to a close, so I wanted to share this amazing idea I found on…you guessed it…Pinterest. You all know the book Oh, The Places You’ll Go from Dr. Seuss. It’s a great graduation gift. But, Lisa from Lisa’s Workshop suggests grabbing a copy when your kid is young. At the end of each school year, give it to your child’s teacher to sign or write a note. When you’re child graduates (hard to think of!), you’ll have a lovely gift to give him/her. Lisa has even included some lovely tags in her blog post, so make sure to go check it out.
