You Don’t Have to Pay for Cable TV

tvWhen evaluating our budget, one thing I noticed is that we spend far too much money on cable TV. I mean, come on, $70 a month is ridiculous. That’s a few date night’s with hubby, a new outfit every month, or if I tallied up a year’s worth, a really nice weekend vacation. Something is wrong with this picture. However, convincing my tv-addicted hubby that we need to let it go is going to be more difficult. Until now. I found this article on Yahoo that details exactly how you cut your tv costs down to just $10 or $20 a month, while still enjoying all of your favorite shows. All it takes is a step into the 21st century and you’re all set. As soon as our contract is up, I’m ditching Dish, in favor of a Roku box and some digital rabbit ears.

How do you save on the cost of TV?

Update: We have since cut cable. It’s been gone for almost 9 months and we don’t miss it at all. We get all the local channels with rabbit ears and we’re able to stream everything we want from Hulu Plus and Netflix via our Roku box. (You can also stream thousands of titles through an amazon prime membership, which is $79 a year and comes with unlimited instant streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows and 2-day shipping on many Amazon purchases. You can also get a 1-month free trial if you just want to check it out.) Hubby was also pretty happy to learn that he can stream Sunday and Monday night football over his laptop. It’s not as high quality as watching it on the big screen…but somethings do get sacrificed.

One Response to “You Don’t Have to Pay for Cable TV”

  1. I use an antenna. I can get 18 channels with it, including about 8 that aren’t available through cable. Then, I go with the 8.99 netflix subscription. If there is anything I want to see that that doesn’t cover, I look for it on line.

I do not believe in paying for TV. You can’t tell me that the average TV channel, cable included doesn’t make it’s money with advertisers. They can argue about the cost of the actual cable, but that is their stupidity, stop running cables! They can bounce everything over the air.

“Oh, The Places You’ll Go” End of School-Year Tradition

It’s not too much longer till the school year comes to a close, so I wanted to share this amazing idea I found on…you guessed it…Pinterest. You all know the book Oh, The Places You’ll Go from Dr. Seuss. It’s a great graduation gift. But, Lisa from Lisa’s Workshop suggests grabbing a copy when your kid is young. At the end of each school year, give it to your child’s teacher to sign or write a note. When you’re child graduates (hard to think of!), you’ll have a lovely gift to give him/her. Lisa has even included some lovely tags in her blog post, so make sure to go check it out.
